Calhoun Academy Holds Annual May Day Program

Calhoun Academy held its annual May Day Program on May 1, 2022 in the Calhoun Academy Gymnasium. It was a fun evening of honoring the King and Queen of May and the May court. An evening of entertainment was provided by our Lower School students. The traditional favorite, the munchkin finale, was performed by the Senior class.

The procession begins with Garland Girls, who are selected from the 5th and 6th grades.


The following students represented the 5th grade class:

Hannah Payton Lanham, daughter of Mr. Lucas Lanham & Mrs. Ashley Zeigler

Bridge Ansley Smith, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Haden Smith



Each class of the Upper School selects a young lady and a young man to represent their class on May Court. The following gentlemen attendants are as follows;


Zachary Brian Weatherford was chosen was the 7th grade class as their representative. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dixon.


The 8th grade selected David Austin Summers for this honor. Austin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David W. Summers, Jr.


The 9th grade selected Jackson William Bronson for this honor. Jackson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Bronson and Mr. and Mrs, Brandon Stabler.


Jacob Cameron Crosby was chosen by the sophomore class. Cameron is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Crosby, IV.


The junior class selected William Jones Andrews, II


I as their representative. Will is the son of Mr. William Jones Andrews, Jr. and Ms. Lindsey Bowers Andrews.


Jace Landon Shuler was chosen by the senior class as their representative. Jace is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lance Shuler.




The following young ladies were chosen to represent the Upper School classes:


Barbara Lynne Haigler. Barbara is in the 7th grade and is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Ryan Haigler.


Elizabeth Chapel Hollingsworth is the representative from the 8th grade. Chapel is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Lee Hollingsworth.


The freshmen class has chosen Catherine Varn Covington as their representative. Cate is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Brian Covington.

The sophomore class has chosen Isabella Marie Layton to represent their class. Isabella is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Mitchell Todd Layton.

Avery Christine Beason was selected by the 11th grade. Avery is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bryan Beason.


The representative of the senior class is Madison Isabell Ulmer. Madison is the daughter of Mr. Thomas Frederic Ulmer and Ms. Julie Ulmer.


The flower girls prepare the way for the other members of the May Court. These young ladies are selected by their 3rd and 4th grade classes:

The upper school student body selects the Escort and Maid of Honor from the junior class. The escort for May Court is William Nelson Felder, son of Mr. Johnny Felder and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Carroll. Maid of Honor for the Court is Blakley Madison Kingsmore. Blakley is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Danny Travis Kingsmore.


Crown-bearers summon the arrival of the King and Queen. The following students were chosen to represent the 2nd grade class:



Kailyn Rae Waters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Waters, Jr.

John Bevington Reed, son of Mr. & Mrs. James Reed.


The 2022 King and Queen of May was chosen by the student body. James McFadden Felder, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bates Felder was crowned as the 2022 May King.

The student body has chosen Bari Arden Arant as Queen of May for 2022. Bari Arden is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James Adam Arant.


Assisting with Bari Arden’s train were the following first grade students chosen by their class:

Edward Monts Burch is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Breckenridge Burch

Lillie Katherine Stoudemire is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Chad Stoudemire.
