Scholarships
Scholarships can help dramatically with your overall tuition and college expenses. They do require initiative and some follow through to persue.
Merit-Based Scholarships - Contact individual colleges for information on their merit-based scholarships. Use the link to find phone numbers and Web addresses for all colleges and universities.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation - NMSC conducts the National Merit® Scholarship Program and the National Achievement® Scholarship Program. These are annual competitions for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.
Finding Private Scholarships - SallieMae College Answer has the largest scholarship search engine on the Web. It also includes a college cost calculator and a financial aid section.
FastWeb Search Site - The FastWeb site lets you search for private scholarships by category.
Local & Regional Scholarships
Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce - The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce offers two scholarships each year to Senior students from schools in Calhoun County. One through the Chamber and one in conjunction with The Regional Medical Center.
SC Teaching Fellows - This program offers the state's brightest and best students up to $6,000 annually for four years to those who are completing a dregree leading to teacher certification. Fellows must agree to teach in a SC public school one year for each year loan moneis are received.
Dick Horne Foundation Scholarship - provides scholarship assistance to needy and deserving students in Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties based on financial need, character, and ability.
Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation - Coca-Cola recognizes outstanding seniors each year with 250 achievement-based scholarships (50 awards for $20,000 and 200 awards for $10,000 - all payable over a four-year period).
Elks National Foundation "Most Valuable Student" - provides 500, four-year awards ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year to high school seniors who are pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis.
KFC Colonel's Scholars Program - is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. Up to $5,000 per year will be awarded for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
St. Matthews Rotary Club - is offering $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors for college expenses. Two scholarships will be awarded to deserving senior who are residents of Calhoun County.
Burger King Scholars Program - The Have It Your Way Foundation is sponsoring the Burger King Scholar Program in memory of of Burger King co-founder James W. McLamore. Awards in the amount of $1,000 each may be used for educational expenses during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school.
AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - This program is awarding $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors to be used for college-related expenses for the 2011-12 academic year. These seniors will have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their school, community, or workplace.
Best Buy @ 15 - The Best Buy Scholarship Program rewards students with good grades who give back to their communities.
Goat Island Boat Club Scholarship - The Goat Island Boat Club, whose members reside around the shores of beautiful Lake Marion, is sponsoring a $2,000 merit scholarship for students who are interested in the protection of our environment and the Santee Cooper lake/river. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded this year.
Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Scholarship- The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teaching sorority, is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is planning to make teaching his/ her career.
TRMC Summer Enrichment Program - The Regional Medical Center's Summer Enrichment Program will offer 25 students the opportunity to gain experience in a hospital setting. For six weeks each student will be expected to work 20 hours a week and will be offered a monetary stipend for the program duration.
Buick Achievers Scholarship - This scholarship is for students enrolling in 4-year institutions, majoring in science, technology, engineering, math, business admin, finance, marketing or design and who are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries.
Sandy Run Ruritan Club - The Sandy Run Ruritan Club is offering scholarships to high school seniors for college expenses.
South Carolina State Fair Scholarship - is for graduation seniors attending either public or private high schools 50 seniors will be awarded up to $6,000 scholarships to be applied toward education costs to a SC university, college, or technical college.
Will to Win Scholarship - Merck Respiratory is sponsoring the Will to Win Scholarship Program for high school seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher education. Ten $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are outstanding, disciplined, determined and successful in managing their asthma.
Calhoun County Farm Bureau Scholarship - The Calhoun County Farm Bureau is offering scholarships to help high school seniors in South Carolina pursue a higher education.
Kittie M. Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship Program - The Kittie M. Fairey Educational Fund offers scholarship aid to deserving students who meet certain academic and financial criteria.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholars - wants to help high school seniors who are exemplary role modes in their communities and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals
St. Matthews Rotary Club Scholarship - is a $1,000. scholarship to high school seniors who reside in Calhoun County for college expenses.
