The Lower School Student Council

The Lower School Student Council is a service organization whose purpose is to promote leadership, citizenship and Calhoun Academy spirit.  Certain qualifications must be met before a student is allowed to run for office.

Each candidate running for office is required to make a short speech before the Lower School Student Body.  One poster must also be displayed in the school hall.

Between September 15 and October 15, council officers and homeroom representatives are to be elected as follows:
President - one candidate from sixth grade
Vice-President - one candidate from fifth grade
Secretary/Treasurer - one candidate from fourth grade

There is one representative elected from each homeroom in grades one through six.

The Lower School Student Council sponsors several projects throughout the school year.  A big fundraiser is the Scholastic Book Fair, which is held every other year.  Also during the Harvest Carnival student council member collect money for UNICEF.  Another project that has been done for the last two years is "Pennies for Patients" which goes to support children with Leukemia.
