Headmaster's Welcome
The headmaster at Calhoun Academy is Mrs. Milly McLauchlin. She is known as "Miss
Milly" to everyone at the school. She has been with Calhoun Academy since its
inception. She started as a teacher....and is currently our headmaster.
According to Miss Milly, Calhoun Academy exists for the benefit of the children
who enroll here. The school's duty is to help prepare the student to assume his
responsibilities and to enjoy his privileges as a citizen.
The teacher should be a leader, guide, and friend, ever endeavoring to meet the
intellectual, physical, and social needs of his pupils. He should make himself
aware of the student's abilities, interests, goals, and direct his teaching toward
maximum pupil development of wholesome attitudes.
The student should learn to assume responsibility for himself and his actions.
He should seek to mature - intellectually, physically, and socially - by actively
and enthusiastically participating in the academic and extracurricular programs
of the school. At all times the student is expected to demonstrate honesty and
highest moral character in his dealings with teachers and students and to represent
his school in a commendable manner.
The school should provide an atmosphere of comfort, attractiveness, and safety
as well as the physical facilities necessary to the processes of learning. It
should provide a curriculum adequate for the college preparatory students and
diversified enough for students who plan no formal education above the high school
level.
