Athletic Program Overview & Requirements
At Calhoun Academy, participation in athletics is viewed as an important component in the overall education experience. Athletics help develop sportsmanship, camaraderie and physical fitness.
Cavalier teams compete in the South Carolina Independent School Association, SCISA. Boys and girls compete in basketball, golf, and soccer. Boys also play football and baseball, and girls play volleyball and fast pitch softball. Varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders provide lively entertainment and spirit-building at games throughout the season.
Calhoun Academy athletics have a long history of championship teams. In addition to varsity and junior high teams, there are B-team football and basketball teams.

According to Calhoun Academy policy and South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) requirements any student who is academically eligible and who participates in a sport must have the following forms completed and signed:
- Physicals: every student-athlete must have a completed physical before he/she is allowed to participate, play or practice. Physicals are valid if they are within one calendar year; or The physical was performed after April 1, 2010. A physical dated after April 1, 2010, will be valid for the entire 2010-11 athletic year.
- Parent's Permission Form: every student athlete must have a current & completed Parent's Permission Form (Agreement for Participation) on file.
- Warning of Inherent Risk : every student athlete must have a current & completed Warning of Inherent Risk Form on file.
In compliance with SCISA requirements, a parent of any student who participates in any sport at CA must attend a meeting with the coach and school officials at the beginning of the season. These will be announced and posted at the beginning of the year.
